Pinatas are great for that age group…paper mache' shapes stuffed with candy and treats that the kids "whack" to open up…may be only familiar in my neck of the woods.
It's summer, so how about "sprinkler jumping"? OR boil a few eggs (can be done with raw eggs, too) and do an "egg walk"…point A to point B…carry the egg on a large spoon and if it's dropped…gotta go back and pick it up to start again.

There are always the classics, like pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, a pinata, egg toss, etc. The site listed below has lots of games and ideas

Here's what I did for my daughter's birthday party once…
Tie mini doughnuts to strings and hang one for each child from a clothesline (or 2 adults can hold the ends)
On "go", the kids have to try to grab their douhnut with their teeth…hands behind their backs. The first one to chew and swallow the doughnut and yell out "HAPPY BIRTHDAY,____!"
is the winner.
Be sure to video them. It's hilarious!
She's 24 and still remembers that birthday party.

Well i recommend some simple kid board games like "Chutes and Ladders" also do "magic" tricks.
Board games:1. Clue Jr, 2.Candy Land – Milton Bradley Boar
Games:
Inside 3 old tin cans empty them and clean them. Then stuff it with hard yummy candy. Then paint it and make it look like an ordinary used tin can that needs to get thrown away. Then say there is a race for kids. Have all the children near you and say the top 3 winners gets the "prizes." Show them the "nasty" cans. (hint: don't tell them they're is candy inside) Then, the race starts. When everyone arrives back from the race give the three winners the cans. At first they will perhaps be disgusted or confused but say "Try inside" then they will see the yummy candy and be happy. However if you want healthy kids then simply get a big old chocolate wrapper and wrap a lot of fruits around/inside it. That way they will think it is chocolate and a lot of people will want to win the race. Remember, kids (especially 6-year-olds) are still kids. They will not be as serious as a 10-year-old. So keep a very lose eye on them and make sure you don't leave any small medicine or other bad food for kids around. I hope this helps and I also hope youi love everyone elses' answers. HAPPY BIRTHDAY for your new 6-year-old who is starting or started 1st-grade?
