Well.. FedEx Orange Bowl, Nokia Sugar Bowl.. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl..
It's kinda annoying.. Hey I don't want to know that FedEX, Nokia, and Tostitos pay millions of dollar to sponsor the bowl game..
It is incredibly annoying but it is just another sign of the times. I feel the same about all the arenas and stadiums who have done the same thing. Just look at Philadelphia: Lincoln Financial Field (Eagles), Citizens Bank Park (Phillies), and the Wachovia Center (76ers & Flyers). I hate it but I don't see it changing anytime soon. Far too many big corporations are willing to pay out big bucks for the naming rights to these bowl games, as ridiculous as they sound. I mean come on, the Papa Johns.com Bowl, Capital One Bowl, AT&T Cotton Bowl? That's not to mention the BCS bowls. But like I said, as absurd as it is, I don't see it changing anytime soon.

It would be nice if they didn't change the name, but then again it would close if it weren't sponsored by the company. So, it's just one of those things that must be dealt with. For instance, the football stadium in which the 49ers play used to be called candlestick park. It's now named something like SBC park. However, I don't know exactly what it's called because I still refer to it as candlestick park.

I don't like it myself, however, it's a permanent fixture in US Sports. No longer will a new stadium not have a corporate sponsor. Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park can still only do it because the clubs have so much money. Wrigley Field is only due to history but I'm sure the Cubs have been under pressure to accept such offers for years.
Regarding your other point, I also agree. If I'm watching the Fiesta Bowl, does it make me want to run to the store for Tosito's? Does it make anybody? I wonder how much less we'd pay as consumers if we didn't have these commercials. How many more McNuggets does Mickey D's sell? None probably. 90% of the population can just about name the entire McDonalds menu without them advertising at all.

I am happy they sponsor the game. I'd be even happier if they pushed for a national title setup. Just because some bowl games would feature teams out of the hunt does not mean they would not be attended or televised. Obviously, they already are doing this for teams that are completely out of winning the title.

Yeah, instead of changing the name they should say something like "The 2009 Orange Bowl, brought to you by FedEx."

They are shelling out millions of dollars, they can call it what they want.
I would rather they foot the bill than the NCAA.

What is annoying is seeing Citigroup sponsoring the Rose bowl still after taxpayers just bailed them out of their financial hole.

I don't mind the names in front (which I'm guessing are sponsors). I just wish they wouldn't change every so many years.

YES!!!!! It's just another way for someone to make MILLIONS of dollars and force the ticket prices up so high that an average joe can't afford to take his kids to any of these venues without refinacing his house
